PGW STEPS UP EFFORTS TO RESTORE GAS SERVICE

(Philadelphia, PA – January 16, 2004) – In response to the severe cold weather conditions, the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is taking additional measures to contact customers who have had their gas service shut off.

In an effort to reach out to customers without service who could not be reached by telephone, PGW representatives visited more than 700 homes in the Philadelphia area today.

PGW has also begun to accept LIHEAP Crisis grants as a means to have customers’ service restored. No other payment will be required at this time.

LIHEAP Crisis grants are available to help low-income households pay heating costs when service has been shut off.

Customers may apply for a Crisis grant at any Neighborhood Energy Center located
throughout Philadelphia. For locations or more information, customers should call the
City of Philadelphia’s 24-hour Crisis Hotline at 215-686-2590.

If you, a neighbor or relative is without heat, we urge you to take action immediately.

Founded in 1836, PGW is the nation’s largest municipally owned natural gas utility, serving a half million residential, commercial, and industrial customers, and Philadelphia’s choice for quality energy solutions.
