| (Philadelphia,
PA – January 12, 2006) – In an effort to help
customers reduce their energy costs, the Philadelphia Gas
Works (PGW) is joining with the Commonwealth and other members
of the Energy Association of Pennsylvania (EAPA) as participants
in the state’s Keystone Home Energy Loan Program.
The program, announced today by state Treasurer Robert
P. Casey Jr., will provide unsecured ten-year loans for
eligible Pennsylvania residents to purchase appliances such
as natural gas furnaces and water heaters that meet federal
“Energy Star” standards for efficiency. The
program also provides loans for home improvements that will
increase energy efficiency and reduce costs.
“In addition to helping low-income customers, this
program also can help many customers with higher incomes
who may earn too much to qualify for other energy assistance
programs,” said PGW Corporate Communications Director
Doug Oliver.
Households with incomes as high as 80 percent of the Area
Median Income as determined by the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development could qualify for the program. Loan
funds for the program are provided by the Commonwealth at
an interest rate of 7.99 percent, however eligible PGW customers
could qualify for a lower rate.
PGW customers may obtain additional information by calling
888-232-3477.
Founded in 1836, PGW is the nation's largest municipally
owned natural gas utility, serving more than 500,000 residential,
commercial, and industrial customers.
