| (Philadelphia,
PA – April 25, 2006) – With the arrival of this
year’s spring construction season, the Philadelphia
Gas Works (PGW) is joining with the Pennsylvania One Call
System to mark this week (April 23-29) as “Pennsylvania
One Call Week.”
“We would like to join with Pennsylvania One Call
System officials to remind anyone who may be planning excavation
work that it is important to call the Pennsylvania One Call
System before digging begins,” said Doug Oliver, PGW
Director of Corporate Communications.
To prevent accidents, property damage and personal injury,
the law requires anyone who plans to dig within the commonwealth
(including contractors and homeowners) to give advance notification
so that all utility lines in a work area can be located
and marked by all facility owners to avoid damage. In Pennsylvania,
the number to call, at least three business days in advance,
is the Pennsylvania One-Call System at 1-800-242-1776. Additional
requirements and information on this law is also available
online at www.paonecall.org.
To make more people aware of the One Call System, Home
Depot customers in Pennsylvania will receive a free refrigerator
magnet from Pennsylvania One Call with their purchase on
Thursday, April 27.
Founded in 1836, PGW is the nation’s largest municipally
owned natural gas utility, serving a more than a half million
residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the
City of Philadelphia.
