PGW Customers Receive $3M IN Supplemental Energy Grants From PA DHS

Eligible PGW customers who received LIHEAP grants were issued a one-time $100 supplemental credit toward their outstanding heating or current energy bill

PHILADELPHIA (AUGUST 10, 2026) -- More than 27,000 qualifying PGW customers received a $100 credit toward their home heating or current energy bill thanks to remaining Low Income Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grant funds administered by the Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services (PA DHS). One-time supplemental grant payments were distributed directly to utility providers of 193,000 households in Pennsylvania that received LIHEAP grants during the 2025-2026 season home heating season. LIHEAP is a federally funded grant administered through PA DHS to help income-eligible families better afford their heating bill.

During the 2025-26 LIHEAP season, which ran from December 2025 through May 2026, nearly 280,000 households across Pennsylvania received LIHEAP grants. Eligibility for the $100 supplemental payment included households that received LIHEAP last season and include at least one person who is age 60 or older, one child under 6, or someone with a disability. Customers can often carry debt from the previous winter heating season into the next winter season – these grants help to reduce that burden from LIHEAP eligible individuals and families.

Recipients were notified of their eligibility by mail and payment distributions were made directly to PGW. The credit was reflected on the customer’s bill in July and appeared as a LIHEAP credit.

Receipt of the $100 credit will not impact a household’s eligibility for the upcoming 2026-27 LIHEAP Season. Learn more about LIHEAP registration and eligibility and sign up for a LIHEAP Alert from PGW at pgworks.com/LIHEAP or by texting 77037.
